Necowood on WPC Decking Surfaces: What 16 Years of Manufacturing Has Taught Us
At Necowood, we've been manufacturing WPC decking for 16 years. Over that time, one question comes up repeatedly: "What's the difference between all these surface options?"
Over the past 16 years, we've noticed that buyers often don't know how to choose between surface options. This guide is our response to that question — based on what we've learned from real-world installations in tropical humidity, desert heat, and freeze-thaw conditions across 35+ countries.
How Necowood approaches surface treatment
Over 16 years of manufacturing, we've worked with every major surface treatment type. Here's our assessment of each — what they deliver, where they excel, and where they have limitations.
Comparing the options
Necowood's recommendations
- Budget-conscious residential: Brushed or standard embossed finishes provide good value for covered or low-traffic areas.
- Premium residential: 3D deep embossing delivers the most realistic wood look. Co-extrusion adds long-term protection.
- Commercial / harsh environments: Co-extruded surfaces offer the best durability and lowest maintenance — proven in Dubai (summer surface temps up to 78°C) and Canada (down to -40°C).
- Wet areas / safety priority: Grooved or deeply embossed surfaces provide the best slip resistance.
Real-world performance: what we've seen in the field
In 2024, Necowood supplied co-extruded decking to a hotel project in Dubai. Summer surface temperatures reached 78°C. After 18 months, the boards showed no warping, no fading, and no surface cracking.
In a separate project in Alberta, Canada, our standard embossed decking survived two winters of freeze-thaw cycles down to -40°C without cracking or delamination.
These are the conditions that separate surface treatments that perform from those that fail. We've learned that co-extrusion and deep embossing consistently outperform simpler finishes in extreme environments.
Necowood offers all of these surface technologies across our product range. Our 16 years of manufacturing experience and exports to 35+ countries mean we've tested these surfaces in real-world conditions — from tropical humidity to desert UV exposure.
We don't chase the cheapest surface or the trendiest finish. We engineer surfaces that deliver consistent, documented performance over decades of service life.
